Highlights

One summit has always outdone all other summits in Greece: Olympus, the preferred residence of the gods, demigods and nymphs. In Greek mythology it was the scene of divine tragedies and family histories and today meet on its slopes normal mortal mountain hikers. The importance of Olympus as a nature park is recognised not only in Greece but throughout the world. Rills and ridges, gorges and high plateaus, deep caves and mighty rocks make Olympus a great nature experience. Explore more than 1500 plant species, some of which are only found here, dozens of animal species and many rare birds. A climb to the Olympus is a dream destination for many fans of Greece. Together we hike to the top at 2,917 metres and gaze the throne of Zeus, the father of the gods.

We sail in the North Aegean in the beautiful sailing area of peninsula Chalkidiki.

A sailing paradise with a unique landscape, picturesque fishing ports and a thousand hidden sandy bays. We sail along the mysterious monastic republic of Athos, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The forested mountain of the same name, Athos, whose 2033 m high peak rises out of the sea at the southern tip of the headland, offers a majestic sight. For over a thousand years, Athos has been home to monks who have dedicated their lives to the worship of God and the Blessed Virgin. Our team plans the perfect sailing route for you and is happy to adapt it to your wishes. You do not need any special sailing experience. Each participant is instructed in sailing and takes over certain tasks. We take care of everything. You sail without risk. Your safety is our top priority.

Our bike tours lead us through the olive groves and pine forests of Sithonia, from bay to bay. The crystal clear waters of Sithonia invite you to swim, snorkel and fish. The mix of sailing, hiking and bike combines the boundless vastness of the sea with constantly new landscape experiences – an unbeatable combination.

Travel Itinerary

Day 1 / Arrival in Thessaloniki

The metropolis is approached daily by many German and European airports throughout the year. After your arrival at Thessaloniki airport you will be welcomed by your English-speaking companion. A taxi or a passenger transporter will take you to the starting port, the marina of Thessaloniki. The journey from the airport to the port of departure takes about 30 minutes by car.

On the yacht you will be greeted with an ouzo check-in and a typical snack by the skipper and for our little adventurers there is a fresh fruit plate with fruit of the season.

After approx. 1.5 hours we start our sailing trip in southwest direction. After about 6 hours we reach the harbour at the foot of Mount Olympus. Here we enjoy our first culinary dinner in a cosy tavern on the beach. Overnight stay on the yacht.

Day 2 / Hiking and Ascent of the Olympus up to 2700 Meters Altitude

Ascent at about 9.00 a.m. from Gortsia launch site (1.120 m) via Petrostrouga refuge (1.940 m). From here the mixed forest gradually begins to clear and from 2,200 m we leave the last contiguous forest stands. A relatively steep ascent to the summit Skourta (2.476 m) follows and then we hike further over the Lemosgrad towards the summit region of Olympus. After a short steep ascent we enter the high plateau Mousses (2.600 m).

Our goal is reached at about 17.00 o’clock (about 6 hours walking time + about 2 hours break) and we enjoy the beautiful panorama in one of the two huts at about 2,700 m. Here you can enjoy dinner as well as a restful sleep.

Day 3/ Reaching the Top of Olympus (Mytikas) at 2917 Meters Altitude

After breakfast we set off for the highest peak of Greece, the Mytikas, at about 8.30 a.m.. For ascent and descent we need about 2,5 hours. It is an overwhelming experience to sit on the throne of Zeus, the father of the gods. From this top, the twelve gods observed whole Greece.

Then we start our descent on the Zonariapad until we reach the European long-distance hiking trail E4 at 2.400 m. On this path we will continue the descent and at 2,060 m we will have a relaxing break in the Spilios Agapitos refuge. The further descent from here is continuous in the forest, but often with views into the main gorge Enippea.

At about 17.00 we arrive at our base in Prionia. (7 hours walking time + 1,5 hours break).

The whole tour offers a deep insight into the flora and fauna of Olympus. Another highlight are the wild goats in the summit region.

Important note: This is a hiking tour in the high mountains. The target group are people with at least average fitness and experience in hiking in the mountains. A head for heights is a prerequisite. The ascent as well as the descent from the summit partly require support with the hands.

The duration of this two-day high mountain tour is only offered in the months of May to October when there is anticyclone.

If the weather is not suitable, the following day tours can be offered as an alternative: 1. Enippea Gorge from Litohoro to Prionia 2. The roar of Papa (round tour on the northern side of Olympus around the river Papa Rema)

We go back to our sailing yacht and after leaving 2917 meters of altitude behind us, we stop at a tavern by the sea and enjoy delicious seafood, ouzo and Greek wine. Overnight stay on the yacht.

Day 4 / Sailing in the Northern Aegean

After breakfast we sail to the sailing paradise Peninsula of Chalkidiki. Sun, wind, waves, turquoise blue water, dolphins, hidden and lonely bays with golden fine sandy beaches, dreamy harbours, typical national specialities, relaxation and pure enjoyment await us. In the evening we reach the picturesque harbour of Neos Marmaras. Depending on the guests’ wishes, we cook together on the sailing yacht or stop at a tavern by the sea. Overnight stay on the yacht.

Day 5/ Cycling through the Dense Forests of Sithonia and from Bay to Bay

Our bike guide has planned the most beautiful route on the Sithonia peninsula for us. We drive through dense olive groves, between pine forests and the turquoise blue water from bay to bay. Between the forests we have unique views of the sea and the coasts of Sithonia. We discover lonely dreamy bays with the wonderful golden sandy beach of Sithonia, far away from mass tourism. At the end of the bike tour we dive into the crystal clear Aegean Sea and enjoy a refreshing swim, snorkel and discover the underwater world of Sithonia (depending on the season). A pleasure for all bikers and nature lovers!

Including bike guide, bike and equipment.

Difficulty level: Easy

Our recommendation: Dinner in the magical natural harbour of Porto Koufo in a tavern by the sea.

Day 6 / Sailing along the Sacred Mount Athos

Today we sail along the eastern and most beautiful “finger” of the peninsula Chalkidiki, the holy mountain Athos. A UNESCO world cultural heritage.

A grandiose view of the 2033 meter high “Holy Mount Athos” awaits us. An autonomous monastic republic full of secrets of Orthodoxy. Ancient old monasteries with thousand year old stories hang on the rocks with a view of the Aegean Sea.

We sail near the “Cape of Athos”. Here in 492 BC the Greeks destroyed the fleet of the Persian king Darius with 300 ships and 20,000 people.

We spend the night on the only inhabited island Chalkidiki΄s, the island “Amouliani”. There we swim, dive and snorkel and enjoy the fine white world famous beaches of Amouliani.

Day 7/ Sail, Bathe, Snorkel, Relax!

Another highlight of our hiking cruise is our last stop. A break in dreamlike turquoise blue water at the island Diaporos. A very small island with hidden blue lagoons. The last years the island Diaporos is a secret and popular holiday destination of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.

In the evening we reach the final destination Latoura near Ormos Panagias. Here we spend the last night on the yacht and enjoy a convivial evening with a final drink on board or a visit to a tavern.

Day 8/ Departure Day

After breakfast our deboarding begins. We start the journey to Thessaloniki Airport with the passenger transporter approx. 5 hours before departure. Depending on the group’s wishes, we can enjoy a last “coffee frappe” or a freshly squeezed orange juice before we arrive the airport. The journey from the final destination port (Latoura/Ormos Panagias) to the airport of Thessaloniki takes approx. 1.5 hours by car (approx. 100 km distance).

Our sailing yachts

Our sailing yachts are maintained annually. They are legally approved as commercial charter vessels. They are fully equipped in terms of navigation and safety and offer good comfort for a pleasant stay on board.

Our skippers

Our skippers are recognized and experienced sailors who know their way around the Aegean Sea very well. They have a great passion for the sea and most of them have been sailing since childhood.  Two of our skippers have become Panhellenic champions in Greek regattas with their boats in recent years.

Your safety is our top priority! We inform you daily about the planned route and the current weather conditions. Your skippers will recommend the best bays and beaches and you will decide where to sail!

They will not only discover with you the most beautiful coasts and lonely bays, but your skippers will also involve you in the guidance of the yacht. You will soon be able to sail the boat alone under the supervision of the skipper.

The Weather in the Regions

Olympus

The weather conditions on Olympus vary depending on the season. One week before your arrival we will inform you about the current weather conditions of the mountain massif.

Peninsula of Chalkidki

The prevailing wind direction is east-north-east. The autumn winds increase from September, which is ideal for sailing and surfing. Water temperature averages 18°C in May and rises to 25°C in August. From October the water becomes cooler, but the temperature is still 20°C. Also in October there are still 6 hours of sunshine on average. As is otherwise known from Rhodes, Crete and the Cyclades, the Meltemi also influences the weather on Chalkidik in summer/autumn with its wind coming from the north. In the bays sheltered from the wind the sailing experience is usually not significantly influenced.
